1982 Fender Stratocaster

-

Dan Smith Era.

This is a really nice and interesting guitar in Sea Foam Green.

As far as I can establish, made in 1982.

-

-

I have owned this guitar for a few years.

The previous owner was a semi-professional musician who played in a band doing pop-music covers at parties and weddings, etc. He clearly has looked after this guitar very well.

It is not a case queen, it has been used.

But used with care.

-

There is some minor fret wear and action is quite low and with no apparent buzzing in the higher notes.

In my opinion there are no issues whilst playing this guitar at all.

-

-

From a collectors perspective, there are a few things are not standard original.

I am therefore selling this guitar as a "players" guitar rather than a true "collectors" guitar.

1/ At some time it would appear a replacement body has been fitted.

This I believe to be a very good quality Japanese Tokai body.

During the 1980's Tokai were making their own very good quality replica guitars and I understand were also later involved with making guitars for Fender.

The wood used for these 1980's Tokai bodies was very high quality Alder.

Nothing wrong with these, Stevie Ray Vaughan used Tokia Stratocasters.

-

2/ At some time a humbucker has been fitted in the bridge position.

The wood under the scratch-plate the body has been relieved to accommodate this.

-

3/ Some years ago the humbucker was removed and the guitar put back to a more original specification.

From the outside obviously nothing is untoward and all looks old and very original.

It now has all three more correct 1982 Dan Smith looking pickups. Possibly all or some of the actual originals, possibly not.

- 4/ The wiring and controls have been simplified.

Now fitted with a with a three way selector switch and the tone control for the middle pick-up has been by-passed.

I understand this is not an uncommon modification for professional musicians.

Basically - it is now less complicated and more like a Telecaster.

-

4/ The volume knob has been replaced at some time.

It looks newer than the others which appear to be the originals.

-

-

--

Obviously this guitar has been well cared for and although not perfect, it is near 40 years old and clearly it has been well cared for and not abused.

This original Sea Foam green finish body on the body is in a really nice condition and the neck is indeed in the very good high-gloss finish with no lacquer peeling, etc.

-

It's a lovely thing - but I never play it.

For Sale

With a nice period “Stagg” aluminium hard case.

A collector grade and all "as original" three control Dan Smith era Stratocaster has become a very collectable and therefore valuable guitar.

I think compared to several other mostly dealer listings this guitar is very good value at

£1500 (UK POUNDS)

I am not open to offers.

If it sells - then fine.

If it does not sell – then that is fine too.

Please note; I am not wanting to post this guitar in fear of it getting damaged.

Cash upon collection only.

From Chelmsford, CM2 postcode.
