MORGAN 4/4

-

-

-

Manufactured in September 1957, this two-seater 4/4 with the low-line body is one of only 386 series 2 models produced from 1955 until 1960, and it being an original Right Hand drive supplied car obviously adds to the rarity.

-

Enthusiast owned for many years, this car has at some time undergone some considerable restoration which it would appear included a new chassis along with several sensible upgrades and performance enhancements.

Currently fitted with a later Competition Model specification Ford 1600GT cross-flow engine with a downdraft twin choke Weber Carburettor and four-branch competition tubular exhaust manifold, all driving through a Ford four speed gearbox. The car has also been re-wired and fitted with an alternator along with wider than standard competition type wire spoke wheels.

Early history is unknown, but it is understood a full restoration was completed around 25 years ago and at that time the speedometer was re-set to zero. Among the more recent files are MOT certificates which confirm a very low mileage with a mere 12,500 miles since 1991, with less than 500 in the last 10 years.

-

The condition of this car is as you would expect from a well-cared for car, but older restoration. The chassis looks superb as does the wood body frame both of which appear to be solid and trouble free. The rear body has lightweight aluminium panels along with aluminium doors. The wings, cowl and bulkhead are steel and all appear to be sound. The paintwork however has signs of age including some cracking around the edges of the bonnet and the nearside wing has some evidence of a poor quality repair which easily could be improved upon with some local attention. Alternatively, a straightforward complete re-spray in the colour of your choice would transform the car.

The black leather interior trim looks very original and remains in a very nice condition indeed. The soft top, tonneau cover and side screens are all excellent and appear to have been hardly used.

Having been dry stored since the Autumn of 2010, this car is now for sale in a running and driving condition and offers an ideal opportunity for someone to own a historic Morgan at a very realistic price indeed, especially when compared to the more common MG and Triumph models from this same 1950's era.
